The story starts with Trish, from Alberta, who absolutely loves cats and kittens. She has loved kitty's all her life and nothing in the whole world is better than a baby kitten to Trish. One of her cats had a litter, and Baby Santos was one of the little kitties. She was in a rocking chair reading a book or something, rocking away when all of a sudden the rocking chair stopped. Trish was completely horrified that she had accidentally rocked over the little kitty and almost killed him. He was having a seizure and was bleeding, and Trish became hysterical and was unable to do anything. Her friend quickly rushed baby Santos to the vet where he received urgent medical attention. The vet did not give Baby Santos good odds at survival, he said to see if the mother takes him back. If not there is not much of a chance he will survive.
So, Trish's friend took Baby Santos home to Trish, where she was still crying about what had happened. They put the little kitty near the mother but the mother cat didn't want anything to do with poor little Baby Santos. Determined to repair her mistake, Trish vowed that this kitty will always get the best of everything, and he will get whatever he wants all the time, "he will be the most loved creature in the world". Trish painstakingly looked after and fed Baby Santos with an eye dropper till he was old enough to eat on his own. For two or three months after the mishap, the little kitty couldn't walk straight, he would walk in circles. But luckily he was able to walk properly after that. He probably had a bit of brain damage from the accident. Baby Santos did not purr for the first time until he was 5 years old.
Trish's love was what kept Baby Santos alive and she knew it because whenever she had to leave for any length of time, he would get depressed and sometimes sick. One time she almost lost him when he was about 5 after leaving for a week Baby Santos fell ill and she had to come home early to nurse him back to health. At approximately age 3 he was diagnosed with liver and kidney disease and they said he had at maximum 3 months to live. Baby Santos again defeated these tremendous odds with love from Trish, and he lived another 5 years!
Well little Baby Santos got sick for the last time January 28th 2005, he couldn't pull through this time so Baby Santos is now forever in our memories. Trish vowed to help his memory live on by spreading the word that love does heal and that sick and wounded will heal faster with love. There has not been enough medical studies or research on this, but Baby Santos is proof that love can work miracles.
